Where to eat with kids in Barcelona

Barcelona is a genuinely easy city to eat in with children. Meal times run late by northern European standards (lunch starts at 13:30, dinner at 21:00) but outside of those windows, most cafés and casual restaurants are open and happy to seat families at any time.
A few things that make eating out with kids easier here than in most European cities: portions are generous, menus almost always have something simple alongside the more adventurous options, and nobody rushes you. Once you have a table, it's yours.
The menú del día is your best friend. Almost every neighbourhood restaurant offers a set lunch menu from Monday to Friday — typically three courses plus bread and a drink for €13–18 per person. Portions are large enough that children often share a main. This is how Barcelona families eat out during the week, and it's far better value than anything near the main tourist sites.
Brunch works well with kids. The city has a strong brunch culture, particularly in Eixample and Sant Antoni, where most places serve until 15:30 or 16:00 on weekends. Kitchens are relaxed, menus are broad, and the later start time means you don't need to rush anyone out of bed. See our guide to the best brunch spots in Barcelona for family-friendly picks across the city.
Where to avoid: The restaurants immediately surrounding the Sagrada Família, Las Ramblas and the main tourist squares charge tourist prices for average food. Walk two blocks in any direction and the quality goes up and the price comes down.
Supermarkets for self-catering: Mercadona and Caprabo are the main chains and have good prepared food sections. Useful if you have apartment accommodation or need to stock up on snacks and breakfast items.
Tips for saving money
Most places of interest in Barcelona offer discounted prices for children and teenagers.
When it comes to transport, kids under 4 years old need no travel tickets for the metro, bus or tram. In the case of museums and attractions, normally the price is reduced for ages between 5-13 years old. This may vary so remember to check before buying.
Joining a free tour is another way to experience the city on a budget. There are many free walking tours in Barcelona where children are welcomed and guides always find a way to make the itinerary interesting for them.
Last but not least, entrance to the main Barcelona attractions are included in the Barcelona Pass, so if you're planning on making the most of your visit, buy the Barcelona Go City Explorer Pass and start saving upon your arrival.
